SUNDAY X/C LEAGUE RESULTS (13Jan08) Stevenage 5K Results Race 3Stevenage 5K Results Race 2Web: www.fvspartans.org.uk SUNDAY CROSS COUNTY LEAGUE RACE 3Sunday, 16 December – Grovelands ParkPermit number SEAA/97/07 This is the third Sunday League race, co-hosted by London Heathside and Serpentine. The venue is Grovelands Park, Southgate in North London (not far from Trent Park). There will be a combined men’s and women’s start at 11.00am. The women will run a shorter distance (aprox 3.25 miles) than the men (aprox 5 miles). The course will be two differing laps for the women and three laps for the men. The opening lap will be on well-maintained parkland, with the opening half of the second and subsequent laps being through woodland. It is gently undulating. The course will take a spike and is also suitable for fell or trail shoes. It should be a good course for cross country newcomers, as well as providing a competitive race for more experienced runners. We will meet close to the finish, which is by the boating lake. There is a cafe, which should be open and serves hot food after the race, on the opposite side of the lake. There are public toilets here. There is also a children’s play area. However, please note that there are no changing facilities, so please come in your running kit. Please also note that should the weather be wet, there is a marked lack of places to shelter. Travel: you’ll find plenty of unrestricted street parking in all the roads surrounding the park. Watch out for speed cameras. I noticed one on Bourne Hill, right opposite the main entrance to the park. Please see map on www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=530486&y=194228&z=1&sv=530486,194228&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf If you’re using public transport, Winchmore Hill Station (National Rail) and Southgate Tube (Piccadilly Line) are within 10 minutes walk of the (many) park entrances. SUNDAY X/C LEAGUE RESULTS (18Nov07) Stevenage 5K ResultsWeb: www.fvspartans.org.uk Sunday League Cross Country Sunday 18th November 2007The Digswell cross-country will be held over the normal course organised by Garden City Runners this Sunday 18th November.Race HQ is the Digswell Village Hall in Harmer Green Lane. This is 50m North of the entrance to Welwyn North Station. Parking: there is plenty of parking in the station car park but we understand the train company are now charging, even on a Sunday, please read the signs before parking. There is also plenty of free parking on the roads around the station and down the hill towards the course with 2 small car parks by the viaduct. Please do not park on the private road near the course start/finish. Facilities: There are limited toilet & changing facilities at the village hall but no showers. Refreshments: We are proposing to provide some refreshments at the village hall after the race. As well as the normal tea/coffee etc someone has offered to provide bread and soup so please return to the hall after the race if you can. The course: is approximately an 800m walk down the hill from the Village Hall. The entrance to the course is via a footpath near the bottom of New Road. Turn left into the footpath around 50m before the mini-roundabout junction with the Hertford Road. On the map the start/finish field is just North of the river Mimram and also North of the private road that runs along side the river. The start/finish has changed slightly from last year – instead of the small lap of the field before going through the gate we are now proposing a 400m straight run up to the gate to spread the field a little. From here the men will run 2 complete laps on farmland (approximately 3 miles per lap) and the ladies 1 complete lap, before returning through the gate to the finish. Race start: 11.00am – men & ladies will run together, once out of the start field, 2 laps for the men and 1 lap for the ladies. Race distance: Approximately 11km for men & 5.5km for ladies. The course: is grass to start and the main lap is a clockwise loop on farmland over footpaths and farm fields. There are styles and gates to negotiate on the course so please take care. The jog will be taking a 1km circular route around the lake, and you can run, walk or jog as many laps as you want up to a maximum of 10 laps. So if you’re more Peter Kay than 10K, it really doesn’t matter. It’s a great excuse to get outdoors and have some fun with friends, family and colleagues, and it really is for a great cause. Go to www.bhf.org.uk/stalbansjog or call us free on 0800 38 99 750 for more information or to register. The reality is that heart and circulatory disease is still the UK ’s single biggest killer. One in five men and one in six women will die from it and nearly 5,000 babies are born with heart defects each year, the chances are that either you or somebody you know has already been affected. But there is some good news. The BHF are saving lives every day through pioneering research and vital patient care within the community, helping to care for patients and families of all ages. So if you can spare some time to get registered and get sponsored, you can literally help to beat heart disease one step at a time. IS YOUR COMPANY BETTER THAN ALL THE REST? THEN ENTER A TEAM! There’s still plenty of time to join in the battle for a St Albans Jog 2007 - Hearts First Hero award, presented to the highest fundraisers later on in the year. You can keep getting sponsored even after you’ve finished the jog, so there’s still plenty of time beat the competition and scoop the title. We’re hoping to get lots of teams from all sorts companies in the area, and we would love to hear from you if you’d like to set one up at your workplace or get involved in supporting the jog. Whether you want to dress up, or dress down, why not do your bit. Team entry is now open and available at a discounted rate, just call us on 0800 38 99 750 for more details or to sign up now. I hope to see you there on the day. Rob Cox Regional Events Organiser (British Heart Foundation) (25Aug07) Fittlife Website Now OnlineSuzy Fitt's website www.fittlife.com is now online.
